Description

Available at MMABOXING, the SMAI Makiwara - Wide Canvas Striking Board is a traditional conditioning tool built for serious strikers who want to toughen their technique and harden their knuckles.

Constructed with a durable canvas striking surface over a solid wood backing, this makiwara delivers authentic resistance with every strike. The wide striking area measures 40cm in length and 24cm in height, providing a larger target zone than standard makiwara boards — ideal for practising open-hand, knife-hand, and standard punch techniques with greater accuracy.

Available in Default Title.

Key Features:

  • Wide Canvas Striking Surface – Larger 40cm x 24cm target area accommodates a broader range of striking techniques.
  • Solid Wood Backing – Provides firm, authentic resistance to condition and strengthen knuckles over time.
  • Traditional Okinawan Design – Rooted in centuries of Karate training methodology for proven conditioning results.
  • Durable Canvas Material – Withstands repeated high-impact strikes without premature wear or surface breakdown.
  • Compact Profile – Easy to mount and position in a home dojo, garage gym, or commercial martial arts studio.
  • Knuckle Conditioning Focus – Designed specifically to build striking density through consistent, progressive training sessions.

Whether you're a beginner building your first striking habits or an advanced Karate practitioner conditioning for competition, the SMAI Makiwara - Wide Canvas Striking Board is a versatile training staple used across multiple martial arts disciplines.

Pads & shields FAQs

Focus mitts, Thai pads or kick shields: which do I need?
Focus mitts are for fast punching combinations in boxing. Thai pads are longer, strap onto the forearms and take punches, kicks, knees and elbows for Muay Thai and kickboxing. Kick shields are large, heavily padded targets for powerful kicks and are often used in MMA, taekwondo and kids' classes.
Is this sold as a single item or a pair?
The product title and description say whether it's sold as a single item or a pair. Mitts and Thai pads are usually sold in pairs, while kick shields and strike shields are often sold individually. If you're unsure, contact us before ordering.
How do I clean pads and shields?
Wipe them down after each session with a damp cloth and mild disinfectant, then let them air-dry. Avoid soaking them or drying them in direct heat, as this can damage the leather or vinyl.
Is there a warranty?
Our products are covered against manufacturing defects. Damage from misuse, accidents or normal wear and tear isn't covered. If something arrives faulty, contact us with photos and your order number and we'll sort it out. This doesn't affect your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
